Digital yard control arrives in Brazil as Loadsmart launches Opendock

Loadsmart has launched its Opendock platform in Brazil, positioning digital yard control as a response to one of the country’s most persistent logistics constraints: long truck dwell times at major facilities. The freight-scheduling and yard-management system was introduced at Intra-Log Expo South America in São Paulo.

For industrial sites, the significance of the rollout lies in the way Opendock connects several operating layers. Appointments, gatehouse activity, yard movements and dock allocation are managed through one cloud platform. This can replace fragmented coordination based on calls, emails and spreadsheets, creating a more consistent flow of information across warehouse teams, carriers and drivers.

Visibility as an operational resilience tool

The platform tracks assets in real time, supports digital yard-layout configuration and enables two-way communication with drivers. SmartGate adds AI-powered computer vision: cameras capture vehicles entering and leaving a site, then associate that visual evidence with the scheduled appointment.

Such automation can help facilities build a clearer operational record while reducing dependence on manual status checks. It also gives managers a basis for identifying recurring bottlenecks at gates and docks, although the scale of any improvement will depend on local deployment and operating conditions.

Loadsmart reports that Opendock connects more than 4,000 warehouses and 230,000 carriers globally and processes over 14 million appointments each year. Its US operations recorded a 62% reduction in wait times between 2022 and 2024, alongside a 31% increase in dock turnover and an 88% improvement in punctuality. The number of appointment-confirmation contacts declined by 45%.

A market with substantial inefficiency to address

Brazil is a strategic step in Loadsmart’s Latin American expansion. Co-founder Felipe Capella said waiting at large Brazilian logistics centres can reach 11 hours, compared with less than two hours in the US. He also cited logistics costs equivalent to approximately 15.5% of Brazilian GDP, versus 8.8% in the United States.

Loadsmart was founded in 2014 by Ricardo Salgado and Capella and has historically focused on North America. Its Brazilian launch therefore combines geographic expansion with a practical test of whether integrated digital coordination can improve throughput in a complex operating environment.

The company demonstrated Opendock at booth 807 at Intra-Log, speaking with manufacturers, warehouses, distribution centres, carriers, shippers and logistics providers. More information is available through Opendock.
