Barcelona to unite FIATA and SIL around resilient supply chains

Barcelona will host a combined international logistics programme in June 2027, bringing the FIATA-REU Field Meeting together with SIL Barcelona. The events will run from 9 to 11 June and are expected to draw freight forwarders, logistics operators, cargo agents, shippers, ports, airports and supply-chain businesses.

The Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB) secured the FIATA meeting. Its selection was announced by FIATA Director General Stéphane Graber at the 2026 FIATA World Congress in Milan, during the federation’s centenary celebrations.

From connectivity to resilience

For manufacturers and industrial logistics teams, the value of the joint format extends beyond networking. FIATA’s agenda includes international freight rules, standardised documents, professional training and digitalisation. These foundations support more consistent data exchange, clearer responsibilities and better coordination when goods cross multiple borders.

The simultaneous events will also create a forum for discussing how supply chains connect Europe with the Mediterranean, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Bringing infrastructure owners, logistics providers and cargo specialists together can help companies compare operational approaches and identify partners for more resilient transport networks. The source material does not specify a detailed technology programme, but the stated focus on digitalisation and supply-chain management gives those issues a clear place in the event’s industrial relevance.

CZFB Executive President Pere Navarro described the appointment as recognition of Barcelona’s logistics ecosystem. General Director Blanca Sorigué said the meeting would attract talent, knowledge and high-value international links, while presenting the region’s capacity for innovation.

A global industry organisation

FIATA was founded in Vienna in 1926 and is headquartered in Geneva. It represents 106 national associations from nearly 150 countries, more than 50,000 companies and over 4,700 individual members. The federation works with bodies including the WTO and IATA on standards, trade facilitation and professional development.

The joint Barcelona programme is intended to strengthen the city’s role as a Southern European logistics gateway and as a link between global markets.
