Digital warehouse control strengthens traceability in nonwovens

For manufacturers handling large, customer-specific products, warehouse digitalisation is not only an automation project. It is also a way to preserve product identity as material moves from production to dispatch. Polímeros y Derivados is applying that approach at its finished-goods centre in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, where it has implemented Mecalux Easy WMS.

The company develops technologies for producing nonwoven fabrics and supplies the automotive, cleaning, construction and plastic-tarpaulin sectors. Its extensive facility had previously been operated through manual routines supported by ERP software. The transition is designed to give the business complete traceability of its rolls, improve warehouse execution and reinforce customer service.

Digital continuity from production to storage

Easy WMS works with Microsoft Dynamics ERP and manages several orders each day. Individual orders may contain as many as 40 lines, making reliable identification important during receiving and subsequent handling. The platform was adapted to Polímeros y Derivados’ two-dimensional labelling system.

RF equipment captures product dimensions, lot numbers, serial numbers and customer codes from those labels. The resulting data supports accurate identification of pallets arriving from production and creates a structured digital trail for the large rolls of nonwoven material.

This kind of continuity can help industrial operations reduce ambiguity between production records and warehouse stock. It also gives customer-specific information a place in the warehouse workflow rather than leaving it dependent on manual interpretation.

Digitalisation aligned with existing controls

The project included the manufacturer’s internal quality-control requirements. Information captured by Easy WMS was aligned with the company’s established information-management framework, allowing the new system to fit with existing governance and operational checks.

Manual inventory procedures previously based on colour coding have now been replaced by computerised control. The change provides a more scalable foundation for growth while reducing reliance on a locally understood visual process.

Easy WMS also includes Supply Chain Analytics, which gives managers detailed visibility into warehouse performance. That capability supports decisions based on operational data rather than solely on manual status checks.

The deployment shows a practical Industry 5.0 lesson: digital tools can improve resilience and control without requiring an isolated technology layer. By linking ERP, labelling, quality information and warehouse execution, Polímeros y Derivados is building a more consistent information flow around finished goods.
