BYD links heavy electric trucks with digital energy management
Electrifying heavy transport is increasingly an infrastructure and data challenge as well as a vehicle challenge. BYD Commercial Vehicles is addressing both with the ETT 44 4×2, a 44-tonne electric tractor unveiled at IAA Transportation 2026.
The flagship model uses a dedicated electric platform and a 651kWh Blade Battery. BYD reports a power output above 1,000hp, or 750kW, and a claimed driving range of 600km. Charging capacity reaches 1.5MW. With Flash Charging, the company says the battery can move from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes, potentially adding up to 400km of range.

From vehicle deployment to system design
For industrial fleets, the important development is the way the truck is packaged. BYD is combining vehicle supply with chargers, energy distribution, storage, intelligent energy management, fleet-management functions and financial services. This creates the basis for treating electrification as an integrated operational system rather than a sequence of individual procurement projects.
That system approach can support resilience by allowing operators to plan charging around shifts, routes and depot constraints. It also introduces new dependencies: high-power charging requires adequate site capacity, while fleet software must connect vehicle availability with energy demand. The practical value of the claimed charging time will therefore depend on how well the physical and digital layers are coordinated.
Scalable applications across the logistics network
The ETT 44 is part of a portfolio spanning 3.5 to 44 tonnes. BYD is also adding heavy rigid trucks, a 26-tonne swap-body model, hooklift vehicles and products for regional distribution, last-mile delivery and municipal work. Electric yard tractors are included as well, offering a controlled starting point for sites seeking to reduce emissions in repetitive on-premise movements. T020 and T028 rigid trucks address distribution and specialist applications. Common foundations in batteries, charging and energy management could make mixed fleets easier to operate and expand. The ETT 44 also includes driver-focused ergonomics, advanced driver assistance and a claimed five-star Euro NCAP rating. BYD’s launch therefore has implications beyond a single truck: it presents a model for linking industrial mobility, energy infrastructure and operational data in one decarbonisation programme.
