New Helsinki freighter strengthens digital cargo flows

Qatar Airways Cargo is adding a scheduled freighter service from Helsinki on 2 September, a move that combines extra air capacity with digital booking and regional road connectivity. For industrial shippers, the service offers another way to build more resilient international supply chains through Doha.

The Boeing 777 freighter will operate once a week on a Doha–Budapest–Helsinki–Doha rotation. It will provide 100 tonnes of export capacity from Helsinki every week. Existing passenger operations continue at seven flights per week, taking total cargo capacity from the airport above 170 tonnes weekly. More than 70 tonnes per week is available in the belly holds of widebody passenger aircraft in each direction.

Capacity aligned with specialised freight

Finland’s industrial export profile includes high-technology products, electronics, machinery, spare parts, pharmaceuticals and healthcare products. Perishables and e-commerce add further demand for dependable and time-sensitive transport. Import flows include electronics, consumer goods, automotive components, industrial equipment and online retail shipments.

The dedicated freighter can improve scheduling options for cargo that requires consistent capacity. Qatar Airways Cargo’s TechLift, Pharma, Fresh and Courier products are designed around different handling requirements, allowing shippers to match transport arrangements to the nature of the goods.

A connected logistics model

Shipments can be booked through the carrier’s digital platform and routed via Doha to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia and Australia. This digital layer may simplify planning and provide manufacturers with a single entry point to a broad international network.

Road Feeder Service partners will extend the service by offering scheduled and ad hoc trucking from Helsinki across Scandinavia and the Baltic region. The air-and-road combination gives industrial and distribution companies more flexibility when consolidating cargo beyond the airport. Further details are available from Qatar Airways Cargo.
